Asher College has secured funds to support students financially and help relieve the cost of student expenses during the COVID-19 pandemic. The newly created Emergency Stabilization Grants program of the CARES Act will provide the funding.

Dallas, United States - May 23, 2020 /PressCable/ —

Asher College of Dallas is announcing they will provide financial support to students to help cover additional student expenses during the Coronavirus pandemic. The funds are allocated through grants provided by the new Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES Act).

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) was signed into law on March 27, 2020. The bi-partisan legislation was necessitated by the pandemic that has halted the global economy, forced millions out of work, and compelled students to conduct their studies through distance learning. The CARES act enables the U.S. Department of Education to direct funding to eligible organizations like Asher College, which can then provide students direct financial assistance through emergency financial grants.

“COVID-19 has caused a global health and economic crisis. During this time of uncertainty and instability, Asher College wants to support our students in every way possible.” Asher President & CEO David Vice said. “Thanks to the CARES Act and the U.S. Department of Education, we will be able to distribute much needed financial assistance directly to our students.”

Current Asher students were notified about the availability of CARES Act funds the week of May 13th. Distribution is expected to begin when funds are received from the Department of Education and Asher verifies the student’s eligibility. President and CEO David Vice said, “Asher College is pleased to have been able to secure this for our students and happy to assist in facilitating the allocation of these funds on their behalf.”

Asher College is proud to provide career training for in-demand, even essential careers, including administrative healthcare workers, pharmacy technicians, as well as information technology and business careers. During this unprecedented time, Asher’s top priority is the health and safety of our students and community; all current Asher students are receiving classroom instruction through distance learning, so they can continue their programs of study even through this global pandemic. Asher College is currently enrolling for all programs.

Innovative fashion designers lead the way on sustainability

Jun 5, 2020

LONDON — Innovative fashion designers are turning to such things as horseradish and nettles to make sustainable clothing and accessories to the delight of a growing number of buyers. While more consumers are paying closer attention to how the production of goods impacts the environment, old habits die hard. A buy-and-toss mentality persists despite a boost from celebrities helping to drive the upcycle and vintage movements. Actress Maggie Q, who created an activewear line from recycled fabrics, is among activists who see plenty of room for improvement. She says she feels "sick about fast fashion.'' "You hear people say, 'Well,...

Tiger quadruplets in Berlin zoo treated for knee problems

Jun 5, 2020

BERLIN — A Berlin zoo says four young Sumatran tigers are undergoing treatment for knee problems. The quadruplets were born in the summer of 2018 and as they started to develop, zookeepers noticed abnormalities in the way the cubs ran, the Tierpark Berlin said Wednesday. CT scans revealed all four tigers had knee misalignments that were causing cartilage damage. That damage is now being treated, and an expert team is to sit down in the new year to discuss long-term strategies to help the tigers. “We don't want to just rely on our own judgement. We will sit down with...

Streep, Miranda and Stone are named as Met Gala co-0chairs

Jun 5, 2020

NEW YORK — Next year's Met Gala may be the closest we'll ever come to getting a Miranda Priestly moment at the starry event. Meryl Streep has been named as a co-chair of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. The Oscar-winner played Priestly, a thinly veiled fictional version of Vogue editor Anna Wintour, in the movie "The Devil Wears Prada." Wintour clearly has no hard feelings because she selected Streep as a co-chair along with Lin-Manuel Miranda and fellow Oscar-winner Emma Stone. Designer Nicolas Ghesquiere rounds out the group. The gala's theme is "About Time: Fashion and Duration," which...

Try something new with uncommonly delicious (and ugly) fruit

Jun 5, 2020

As I savor one of my just-picked American persimmons (Diospyros virginiana), I'm reminded how this fruit — and a few other delectable fruits — would never sell. Why not? Because they're ugly! Although the persimmons hung from the branches as handsome, plump, orange orbs up to a few weeks ago, by now they have shriveled and their skins are darkening to brown and black. The texture and flavor have likewise changed. They once were like dried apricots that have been plumped up in water and then dipped in honey with a dash of spice. Now, they've become mushier, with some...

Millennial Money: Secrets of a Black Friday Shopper

Jun 5, 2020

My husband and I have a Thanksgiving routine. Before the family arrives or the turkey is carved, we gather in the living room. As Christmas music plays in the background, he turns on his laptop, and I mine. That's when the deal hunt begins. Some people cringe at the thought of shopping on Thanksgiving or Black Friday, but I revel in it. Maybe it's because I love a good bargain, or because I write about how to save money. Whatever the reason, I know a lot about Black Friday. And I'd like to share some secrets with you. SHOPPING EARLY...
