The theme of the Convention this year is Insights into Bhagavad Gita - Universal message for Freedom & Fearlessness.

MCLEAN, Va. - Sept. 18, 2020 - PRLog -- Center for Inner Resources Development - North America (CIRD-NA), a non-profit global knowledge institution, is delighted to announce the fourth Global Bhagavad Gita Convention (GBGC) on October 10, 11, and 12, 2020. The program will be an online event.

The theme of the Convention this year is Insights into Bhagavad Gita - Universal message for Freedom & Fearlessness. As we all know, the world is going through challenging times. We hope the message of Bhagavad Gita conveyed by accomplished speakers will help the global community to come together, build much needed spiritual strength to counter, and develop our inner defense to meet the crises which life brings forth.

This global forum will introduce the essence of Bhagavad Gita to all the participants and further deepen the text's understanding of those already familiar. Inspiration and Guidance for the Convention come from Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha, a renowned spiritual master from India. A distinguished panel of speakers, including leading scholars, thinkers, and professionals, will share timeless wisdom from Gita and its practical applications in everyday life.

In 2017, the inaugural Convention was held at the University of California, Irvine. The second edition at George Mason University, Virginia, in 2018 generated significant interest and participation. The third event took place at San Jose State University, San Jose, CA, in Silicon Valley, had attendance from from various walks of life.

This Bhagavad Gita convention aims to introduce the teachings of this wonderful text and deepen the knowledge of those already familiar with it. The Gita's philosophical foundation will serve as our springboard and healthy inspiration for discussion at the Convention.

Bhagavad Gita is an ancient Indian text that documents the dialog between two great warriors, Krishna, the teacher, and Arjuna, the student. For the past several millennia, people from all walks of life have discovered Gita's practical spiritual wisdom to empower their lives. Gita's knowledge provides a deep understanding of human nature, enabling one to live and interact in the world with expansion, ease, and fulfillment.

Innovative fashion designers lead the way on sustainability

Oct 25, 2020

LONDON — Innovative fashion designers are turning to such things as horseradish and nettles to make sustainable clothing and accessories to the delight of a growing number of buyers. While more consumers are paying closer attention to how the production of goods impacts the environment, old habits die hard. A buy-and-toss mentality persists despite a boost from celebrities helping to drive the upcycle and vintage movements. Actress Maggie Q, who created an activewear line from recycled fabrics, is among activists who see plenty of room for improvement. She says she feels "sick about fast fashion.'' "You hear people say, 'Well,...

Tiger quadruplets in Berlin zoo treated for knee problems

Oct 25, 2020

BERLIN — A Berlin zoo says four young Sumatran tigers are undergoing treatment for knee problems. The quadruplets were born in the summer of 2018 and as they started to develop, zookeepers noticed abnormalities in the way the cubs ran, the Tierpark Berlin said Wednesday. CT scans revealed all four tigers had knee misalignments that were causing cartilage damage. That damage is now being treated, and an expert team is to sit down in the new year to discuss long-term strategies to help the tigers. “We don't want to just rely on our own judgement. We will sit down with...

Streep, Miranda and Stone are named as Met Gala co-0chairs

Oct 25, 2020

NEW YORK — Next year's Met Gala may be the closest we'll ever come to getting a Miranda Priestly moment at the starry event. Meryl Streep has been named as a co-chair of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. The Oscar-winner played Priestly, a thinly veiled fictional version of Vogue editor Anna Wintour, in the movie "The Devil Wears Prada." Wintour clearly has no hard feelings because she selected Streep as a co-chair along with Lin-Manuel Miranda and fellow Oscar-winner Emma Stone. Designer Nicolas Ghesquiere rounds out the group. The gala's theme is "About Time: Fashion and Duration," which...

Try something new with uncommonly delicious (and ugly) fruit

Oct 25, 2020

As I savor one of my just-picked American persimmons (Diospyros virginiana), I'm reminded how this fruit — and a few other delectable fruits — would never sell. Why not? Because they're ugly! Although the persimmons hung from the branches as handsome, plump, orange orbs up to a few weeks ago, by now they have shriveled and their skins are darkening to brown and black. The texture and flavor have likewise changed. They once were like dried apricots that have been plumped up in water and then dipped in honey with a dash of spice. Now, they've become mushier, with some...

Millennial Money: Secrets of a Black Friday Shopper

Oct 25, 2020

My husband and I have a Thanksgiving routine. Before the family arrives or the turkey is carved, we gather in the living room. As Christmas music plays in the background, he turns on his laptop, and I mine. That's when the deal hunt begins. Some people cringe at the thought of shopping on Thanksgiving or Black Friday, but I revel in it. Maybe it's because I love a good bargain, or because I write about how to save money. Whatever the reason, I know a lot about Black Friday. And I'd like to share some secrets with you. SHOPPING EARLY...
