Kenny Slaught Highlights The Edge as Most Sustainable Workplace in the World

The Edge is a building based in Amsterdam that consolidates all the city’s employees working with the leading Big Four consulting firm.

Santa Barbara, CA - June 13, 2018 /MarketersMedia/ —

Kenny Slaught, known for his real estate development in California, often looks outside the country for more sustainable and innovative design strategies. He has found one, called The Edge in Amsterdam, that revolutionizes the workplace environment with completely sustainable practices through-and-through. On his blog at KennySlaught.com, he discusses Europe’s new development – the Edge building that defies the common understanding of architecture and pushes the boundaries of imagination, as businessmen of today strive to enhance smart technologies and sustainability elements in their office space.

The Edge is a building based in Amsterdam that consolidates all the city’s employees working with the leading “Big Four” consulting firm – Deloitte Netherlands. Developed by the Dutch firm OVG, the 40,000m² office building was designed by London-based architects PLP Architecture. The Edge has received the world’s highest BREEAM rating (98.36%) awarded to an office building, which technically makes it the greenest building on the planet. The design is highly sustainable and appointed with an unmatched level of technologically advanced featured that rightfully led to the Edge’s recognition as the most intelligent building ever built to date.

Kenny Slaught argues that the Edge complex is the most practical and complete representation of a modern office space, an example of what the Internet of Things has the power to create and how it should operate. Everything begins right from the way one accesses the Edge. Employees are connected to the structure by using their smartphones. They all use a digital application that tracks everything they do when they work and gives a concrete structure to a typical workday of individuals using the app. From the moment they wake up in the morning, the app begins their day by suggesting a scheduled calendar and upon arrival at work, it communicates with the building to give the employees of the global firm access to their vehicle by recognizing the latter’s license plate.

Outside of the Edge, the mobile application also helps to find a parking space within the inside of the building There are special spots where building tenants can charge their electric cars for free during their workhours. Dedicated parking lots are offered to those who commute to work on bicycles since this is a fairly common practice in the Netherlands. Inside the building, finding a designated office is another easy task for Deloitte employees who then use the app on their mobile phones or other smart gadgets to locate an office station, which may be a different one each day, as nobody at the Edge has a unique office desk attached to one individual only.

Aug 20, 2018

PRAGUE — It's been 50 years, but powerful images of the Soviet-led invasion of Czechoslovakia taken by photographer Josef Koudelka still resonate among Czechs and elsewhere in the world — they've even been admired in Russia. As the armies of the five Warsaw Pact countries invaded his country an hour before midnight on Aug. 20, 1968, Koudelka was ready. Risking his life, he took thousands of photos in the week that followed, capturing the shocking experience for his nation — and the defiance of its people. After the negatives were smuggled out of the country, the photos that were published...

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump's Veterans Day parade has been canceled after senior White House and Pentagon leaders saw the estimated $92 million price tag. And that set off a volley of tweets and accusations between the president and the mayor of the nation's capital. The drama that unfolded Thursday and Friday also highlighted, not for the first time, a disconnect between the Pentagon and the White House when it comes to turning some of Trump's ideas into reality.

While Defense Secretary Jim Mattis dismissed the price estimate for the parade as fiction...

How Trump's big military parade turned into a big nothing

Aug 20, 2018

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump's lofty vision of big tanks, vintage aircraft and modern fighter jets swooping through the streets of Washington in a show of patriotic force crumbled Friday under the weight of logistics, including a $92 million estimated price tag. Will it be cheaper next year, as Trump contends? Were government budget crunchers "smoking something" like the Pentagon chief suggested? Are corrupt local officials to blame as Trump alleged? A look at how Trump's big idea turned into a big nothing: MY PARADE IS BIGGER THAN YOUR PARADE Trump got the idea of a military parade during a...
