The Wakamono Mask - The World’s First Anti Coronavirus Surgical Mask

1. The Needs Improvement of Surgical Masks
A medical mask is designed to prevent infection by filtering bacteria, drops, and sol air from entering the user's mouth and nose. However, with this design, there exist limitations that bring the risk of cross-contamination of infectious viruses on the surface of surgical masks. The question here is whether the mask can filter the virus? The current standard respirator includes the N95 standard and medical respirator that has been tested to filter 95% particles approximately 0.3 microns in diameter thanks to its electrostatic properties that trap dirt and dust, bacteria with a diameter of about 1 micron. Meanwhile, the size of the most interesting virus strain now is Coronavirus with a smaller size of about 0.05 - 0.2 micron [1].

On the other hand, experts warn users not to touch the mask's surface and thus spread germs to other surfaces. Since the filtered pathogenic microorganisms trapped on the surface of the mask do not die, they are still alive and growing. According to research, Coronavirus can last up to 7 days on disposable surgical masks [2]. To solve the above disadvantages, Medical masks WAKAMONO been studied and created not only filtering but also destroy viruses and bacteria.

2. The World’s First Medical/Surgical Mask Applied Nano Biotech to Stop Covid-19 Pandemic

WAKAMONO surgical mask is the world's first Nano Biotech application mask to prevent the COVID-19 pandemic. To do that, thanks to GECIDE FABRIC layer - the inner layer of WAKAMONO Medical mask. With the Innovation Nano technology, the inner layer of WAKAMONO Medical Mask is covered with millions of organic nanoparticles which are selected from billions of molecules of natural origin that crystallize to form  millions of "traps" that weaken and destroy "preys" are viruses and bacteria when they are touch these organic nanoparticles.

The World’s First Medical Mask Applied Nano Biotech has been shown to be effective against 99% of the strains of SARS-CoV-2 which is the Human Coronavirus strain causing the COVID-19 pandemic. This special mask is also capable of self-killing Coronavirus strains including strain NL63, 229E. Not only that, it also inactivated influenza A H1N1 – the enveloped viruses and Poliovirus-I – the non-enveloped viruses. It is evidence that it can destroy all variants of Human Coronavirus. Moreover, WAKAMONO Medical Mask kills 99.9% of pathogenic bacteria.

According Guideline for Disinfection and Sterilization in Healthcare Facilities (2008) – CDC: Non-enveloped viruses are more resistant to changes in temperature, pH, and some disinfectants than are enveloped viruses [3]. Coronavirus and its variants, are enveloped viruses, and for this reason they have the same sensitivity to disinfectants. If some of them produce more human pathology than others (like SARS-Cov-2), it is because they interact with host cell receptors differently.

3. WAKAMONO Surgical Mask - A Standard One
Besides the ability to antiviral, WAKAMONO surgical mask transcends the basic protection standards established for surgical/medical masks. WAKAMONO surgical mask meet and exceed the highest FDA standards of the US, which is ASTM F2100 level 3 and European CE EN 14683 Type IIR.

4. Wakamono Surgical Mask – Certified Biosafety
The surgical mask using Nano Biotechnology contains biocide organic and natural components. It is certificated safe (Biosafety) according to Tests for in vitro cytotoxicity ANSI/AAMI/ISO 10993-5:2009 by Pacific Labs (USA). WAKAMONO medical masks do not apply metal nanoparticles in masks.

Why does WAKAMONO not use nano-metal particles?
Due to these old technologies (nanosilver, nanocopper, nanotitanium, etc.) have the potential to affect human health that has been discussed by the European Commission about their safety, less friendly to the environment and user friendly [4]. Examples of nanotechnology silver using compounds AgNPs, while having light AgNPs releasing silver ions (Ag+) in order to break the structure and loss of function of organs in cells lead to cell damage [5]. According to the study, silver ions concentration increases to 100 µg/mL, the cell viability decreases to 74.5% [6].

In addition, another weakness, AgNPs are rapidly converted to more stable form in certain condition, which reduces the particles’ ability to release silver ions and kill bacteria [7].

Innovative fashion designers lead the way on sustainability

Oct 25, 2020

LONDON — Innovative fashion designers are turning to such things as horseradish and nettles to make sustainable clothing and accessories to the delight of a growing number of buyers. While more consumers are paying closer attention to how the production of goods impacts the environment, old habits die hard. A buy-and-toss mentality persists despite a boost from celebrities helping to drive the upcycle and vintage movements. Actress Maggie Q, who created an activewear line from recycled fabrics, is among activists who see plenty of room for improvement. She says she feels "sick about fast fashion.'' "You hear people say, 'Well,...

Tiger quadruplets in Berlin zoo treated for knee problems

Oct 25, 2020

BERLIN — A Berlin zoo says four young Sumatran tigers are undergoing treatment for knee problems. The quadruplets were born in the summer of 2018 and as they started to develop, zookeepers noticed abnormalities in the way the cubs ran, the Tierpark Berlin said Wednesday. CT scans revealed all four tigers had knee misalignments that were causing cartilage damage. That damage is now being treated, and an expert team is to sit down in the new year to discuss long-term strategies to help the tigers. “We don't want to just rely on our own judgement. We will sit down with...

Streep, Miranda and Stone are named as Met Gala co-0chairs

Oct 25, 2020

NEW YORK — Next year's Met Gala may be the closest we'll ever come to getting a Miranda Priestly moment at the starry event. Meryl Streep has been named as a co-chair of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. The Oscar-winner played Priestly, a thinly veiled fictional version of Vogue editor Anna Wintour, in the movie "The Devil Wears Prada." Wintour clearly has no hard feelings because she selected Streep as a co-chair along with Lin-Manuel Miranda and fellow Oscar-winner Emma Stone. Designer Nicolas Ghesquiere rounds out the group. The gala's theme is "About Time: Fashion and Duration," which...

Try something new with uncommonly delicious (and ugly) fruit

Oct 25, 2020

As I savor one of my just-picked American persimmons (Diospyros virginiana), I'm reminded how this fruit — and a few other delectable fruits — would never sell. Why not? Because they're ugly! Although the persimmons hung from the branches as handsome, plump, orange orbs up to a few weeks ago, by now they have shriveled and their skins are darkening to brown and black. The texture and flavor have likewise changed. They once were like dried apricots that have been plumped up in water and then dipped in honey with a dash of spice. Now, they've become mushier, with some...

Millennial Money: Secrets of a Black Friday Shopper

Oct 25, 2020

My husband and I have a Thanksgiving routine. Before the family arrives or the turkey is carved, we gather in the living room. As Christmas music plays in the background, he turns on his laptop, and I mine. That's when the deal hunt begins. Some people cringe at the thought of shopping on Thanksgiving or Black Friday, but I revel in it. Maybe it's because I love a good bargain, or because I write about how to save money. Whatever the reason, I know a lot about Black Friday. And I'd like to share some secrets with you. SHOPPING EARLY...
